How it works

Three steps to a signed PDF

One big button on the home screen. Most documents take about 30 seconds from import to share.

  1. Import

Open a PDF from Files or Mail, pick a photo, or scan the paper copy with your camera. Password-protected PDFs open too.

    PDF · JPEG · PNG · HEIC · paper
  2. Tap the highlighted fields

Plainsign finds the blanks, lines and boxes for you, even on scans. Tap Next field to jump to each one and add your signature, initials, the date or your details.

    Signature · Initials · Text · Date · Check
  3. Finish and share

Check every page, then share, print or save the signed PDF to Files. A certificate page records who signed and when; switch it off if you don’t need it.

Share · Print · Save to Files
Why Plainsign

Built around what people hate about signing apps

We read what people complain about in today’s signing apps. Every screen in Plainsign answers one of these six problems.

  • 1 · Billing traps

Price first. A reminder before your trial ends.

Every plan and price is on one screen before you start. If you take the free trial, Plainsign reminds you the day before it ends, and cancelling takes a few taps.

  • 2 · Bait paywalls

    No surprise paywalls. No watermarks.

Plans are shown up front, not halfway through a document. Your first document is free with every feature, and nothing you sign ever gets a watermark.

  • 3 · Lost work

    Autosave you can see.

“Saved” sits at the top of the editor. If the app closes mid-document, Plainsign brings your work back right where you left it.

  • 4 · Forced accounts

    No account. Nothing uploaded.

Documents are opened, filled and signed on your iPhone. There’s nothing to sign up for, and an optional Face ID lock keeps them yours.

  • 5 · Clumsy placement

Fields found for you. Snaps to the line.

Every blank Plainsign finds is highlighted. Signatures snap into place, a magnifier shows exactly where you’re putting them, and My info fills your name or address in one tap.

  • 6 · Overkill

One big button. About 30 seconds.

Import, tap the highlighted fields, finish. Need someone else to sign too? Hand them your phone. No email, and no account for them either.

Features

Everything everyday paperwork needs

Leases, permission slips, NDAs, offer letters, delivery notes. Nothing you’ll never use.

  • Scan paper copies

Your camera straightens and cleans up each page on the device. Rotate, add or remove pages, then sign, or just save it as a PDF.

  • Your signature, your way

Draw it with your finger or Apple Pencil, type it in one of four styles, or photograph it on paper and Plainsign removes the background.

  • Fields found for you

Form fields, underscores, signature lines and empty boxes are detected automatically, with text recognition for scanned pages.

  • My info

Add your name, email, phone, company and address once, then insert any of them with one tap. Kept in the keychain on your device.

  • Sign in person

Hand your phone to the other person. They can add only their signature, initials and the date, and can’t see your other documents.

  • Organize pages

Reorder, rotate, remove or extract pages, and merge files into one document before you sign.

  • Signing certificate

A last page, on by default, records who signed, when, on which device, and a SHA-256 fingerprint of the original file.

  • App lock

Ask for Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode to open Plainsign, so only you can see your documents.

Zero documents uploaded to our servers. Ever.

There is no Plainsign server for your documents. They’re opened, filled, signed and stored on your iPhone or iPad, and they leave it only when you share them.

  • No account

No sign-up, no login, no email address. Plainsign doesn’t know who you are.

  • No analytics, ads or tracking

No analytics or crash-reporting tools, no ads, and no tracking across other apps and websites.

  • Only your purchase goes online

To check your plan, the app asks the App Store through RevenueCat, using an anonymous ID. Your documents are never part of it. Read the privacy policy.

FAQ

Good to know

Is Plainsign free to try?

Yes. Your first document is free, with every feature and no watermark. After that you can choose a weekly, yearly or lifetime plan. Trying the sample lease in the app doesn’t use up your free document.

Are my documents uploaded anywhere?

No. Plainsign opens, fills, signs and stores documents on your iPhone or iPad. There’s no Plainsign server for documents and no account. A document leaves your device only when you share, print or save it somewhere yourself.

Is a signature made with Plainsign legally binding?

Plainsign creates simple electronic signatures: your signature placed on the PDF, plus an optional certificate page that records how it was signed. Simple electronic signatures are commonly used for everyday agreements, but some documents, such as wills, notarised deeds or certain government forms, need a different kind of signature. If you’re not sure, ask whoever asked you to sign. Plainsign isn’t a law firm and doesn’t give legal advice.

Do I need an account?

No. There’s nothing to sign up for or log into, and Plainsign never asks for your email address.

Can someone else sign on my phone?

Yes. Choose Sign in person, enter their name and hand them your phone. They can add their signature, initials and the date, but can’t see your other documents or your saved signatures. To take it back, you confirm it’s you with Face ID or your passcode.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. On iPad you can sign with Apple Pencil.

What happens if my plan ends?

Your documents stay on your device and stay readable. You can still open, share and save them. Editing, signing and starting new documents need an active plan again, apart from the sample lease and your one free document.
