Terms of Use

Last updated: 1 October 2026

The short version. Plainsign is a tool for filling in documents and placing signatures on them, on your own device. You decide what to sign, whether an electronic signature is right for that document, and who to send it to. Your first document is free; after that you can buy a plan through the App Store, and Apple handles billing, cancellations and refunds. Plainsign isn’t a law firm and doesn’t give legal advice.

1. About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Cihat Karaboğa, the independent developer of Plainsign, based in Istanbul, Türkiye (“we”, “us”). They cover the Plainsign app for iPhone and iPad (“eSign: Sign PDF & Documents” on the App Store). Plainsign is licensed to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”), and these terms add to it. By using Plainsign you agree to both.

How we handle data is explained in the Privacy Policy.

2. What Plainsign does

Plainsign lets you import documents, fill in their fields and add simple electronic signatures: an image of your drawn, typed or photographed signature placed on the PDF. It also adds a certificate page, on by default, that records who signed, when and on which device.

Plainsign does not:

  • create advanced or qualified electronic signatures, or digital signatures based on a certificate issued to you;
  • verify the identity of anyone who signs, including people who sign in person on your device;
  • act as a notary, witness or trusted service provider, or store a copy of your documents for you.

The certificate page is a record of how a document was signed in Plainsign. It isn’t a qualified electronic signature or a certificate issued by a trust service provider. If a PDF already carries a digital signature, signing it in Plainsign makes that existing signature invalid; the app warns you before you do.

3. Not legal advice

Simple electronic signatures are commonly used for everyday agreements, but the rules differ between countries and between types of documents. Some documents, such as wills, deeds, notarised documents and certain government or court forms, may need a handwritten, witnessed, advanced or qualified signature instead. It’s your responsibility to decide whether an electronic signature made with Plainsign is acceptable for a particular document. If you’re not sure, ask the person or organisation that asked you to sign, or a lawyer. Nothing in the app or on this website is legal advice.

4. Signing responsibly

When you use Plainsign, you agree that you will:

  • sign only documents you’re entitled to sign, and only with your own signature or a signature you’re authorised to use;
  • never use Plainsign to forge a signature, alter a document someone else has signed without their agreement, or mislead anyone about who signed or when;
  • when using Sign in person, make sure the person signing is who they say they are and agrees to sign;
  • handle other people’s personal data in your documents lawfully, and only share documents with people who should receive them;
  • not use Plainsign for anything illegal, and not try to copy, reverse-engineer or get around the app’s purchase checks, except where the law allows it.

You’re responsible for the documents you create and share with Plainsign and for their content.

5. Free document and plans

Free. Your first document is free and includes every feature, with no watermark. Opening the sample lease in the app doesn’t count towards it.

Plans. To create more documents, you can buy a weekly or yearly auto-renewing subscription, or a lifetime one-time purchase. Every plan includes every feature. The options, prices and any free trial are shown in the app, in your local currency, before you buy.

Subscriptions.

  • Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
  • A subscription renews automatically for the same period and price unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
  • You can manage or cancel a subscription in your device’s Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, or from Settings → Manage subscription in Plainsign. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel it. After you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
  • If a free trial is offered and you’re eligible, you’re charged when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
  • If a price changes, Apple tells you in advance and, where required, asks for your consent before you’re charged the new price.

Lifetime. A lifetime purchase is a one-time payment, not a subscription. It unlocks every feature on devices signed in to the same Apple Account, with no further charges.

When a plan ends. Your documents stay on your device and stay readable, and you can still share and save them. Editing, signing and creating new documents need an active plan, apart from the sample lease and your one free document.

Restoring. To get your plan back on a new or reset device, tap Restore purchases in Plainsign’s Settings while signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you used to buy.

Refunds. All payments go through Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. This doesn’t affect any right to a refund you have under consumer law.

6. Your documents

Your documents, signatures and details are yours. We don’t claim any rights in them, and because they never leave your device, we never have a copy. That also means we can’t recover anything you delete or lose, for example when you use Delete all data, delete the app or lose your device. Keep your own copies of important signed documents, for example by saving them to Files or sharing them, and keep your device backed up.

7. Our content

Plainsign, its design, name, logo and content (other than your documents) belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app under the Standard EULA and these terms. Plainsign includes open-source software and fonts used under their own licences, listed in the app under Settings → Open-source licenses.

8. Updates and availability

We work to keep Plainsign useful and reliable, and we may update it, change or remove features, or stop offering it. Plainsign works offline; checking a purchase needs an internet connection. We’ll try to give reasonable notice before removing anything significant you’ve paid for.

9. Disclaimer

Plainsign is provided “as is”. We do our best, but we can’t promise it will be error-free or always available, that it will find every field in a document, or that a recipient will accept an electronic signature. Always check the finished document before you share it.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we’re not liable for indirect or consequential losses; for loss of documents or data stored on your device; or for the consequences of a document being rejected, disputed or found invalid because it was signed electronically. Our total liability to you for any claim about Plainsign is limited to the amount you paid for it in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

11. App Store terms

If you downloaded Plainsign from Apple’s App Store:

  • These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for Plainsign and its content.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for Plainsign. For support, contact us (see section 13).
  • If Plainsign fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price for the app, if any. To the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Plainsign.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to Plainsign, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
  • If a third party claims that Plainsign or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
  • You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • You must comply with any third-party terms that apply when you use Plainsign, such as your wireless data service agreement.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and on your acceptance Apple has the right to enforce them against you.

Where these terms don’t cover something, the Standard EULA applies.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye, and the courts of Istanbul have jurisdiction. If you’re a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in your local courts.

13. Changes and contact

We may update these terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes. We’ll change the date at the top, and if a change significantly affects you we’ll give reasonable notice. If you keep using Plainsign after a change takes effect, the new terms apply.
