How can we help?
Quick answers below. If you’re stuck, found a bug or have an idea, email us. A real person reads every message and usually replies within 24 hours.
Contact us
For help, bug reports, billing questions, feature ideas or privacy requests. Writing from the app (Settings → Contact support) adds your support ID automatically, so we can find your purchase. It also helps to include your device model, iOS version and the Plainsign version, shown at the bottom of Settings. Please don’t attach a confidential document unless you want us to see it.

Getting started
How do I sign my first document?
Tap Sign a document on the home screen and choose Files, Scan or Photos. Plainsign highlights the fields it finds. Tap Next field to fill each one, then Finish, check the pages, and share, print or save the signed PDF. Want to practise first? Tap Try a sample lease. It doesn’t use up your free document.
Which files can I open?
PDFs and photos (JPEG, PNG and HEIC), or a paper document you scan with the camera. You can also send files straight to Plainsign from Mail, Files, Safari and other apps: tap Share and choose Plainsign. Up to 10 files can be shared at once.
The PDF asks for a password
Enter the password the sender gave you. Plainsign uses it once to open the file and doesn’t save it. It keeps an unlocked copy on your device to sign, so the signed PDF you share won’t ask for the password.
“We couldn’t open this file”
The file may be damaged, or it isn’t a real PDF even if its name ends in .pdf. Nothing on your device was changed. Try one of these:
- ask the sender to send it again;
- open it in the Files app and choose Share → Plainsign;
- scan the paper copy instead.
Still stuck? Email us the error and, if it isn’t confidential, the file.
Signing and fields
Plainsign didn’t find a field
Use the tools at the bottom of the editor (Signature, Initials, Text, Date, Check or My info) and tap where it should go. You can drag, resize and rotate anything you add. If a document type keeps getting missed, tell us. It helps us improve detection.
How do I make or change my signature?
When you add a signature you can draw it with your finger or Apple Pencil, type it in one of four styles, or take a photo of your signature on paper. Plainsign saves it for next time. You can keep more than one, set one as your default, and delete the ones you don’t need.
Can I put my initials on every page?
Yes. After you place your initials, choose to apply them to all pages.
Someone else needs to sign too
In the editor, tap the ••• button at the top and choose Sign in person. Enter their name and hand them your phone. They can add their signature, initials and the date, but can’t see your other documents or your saved signatures. When they’re done, you confirm it’s you with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode to take the phone back.
The app closed while I was working
Plainsign saves as you go. Open it again and it brings your document back where you left it, with a note that it was restored.
Is my signature legally binding?
Plainsign creates simple electronic signatures, which are commonly used for everyday agreements. Some documents need a different kind of signature, so if you’re not sure, ask whoever asked you to sign. Plainsign isn’t a law firm and doesn’t give legal advice. More in our Terms of Use.
Plans and billing
What do I get for free?
One document with every feature and no watermark. After that, choose a weekly plan ($9.99 a week, with a 3-day free trial if you’re eligible), a yearly plan ($29.99 a year) or a one-time lifetime purchase ($79.99). Prices are in US dollars; the App Store shows yours in your currency before you buy.
I bought a plan but the app doesn’t show it
Open Settings in Plainsign and tap Restore purchases, signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to buy. Check that you’re connected to the internet. Still missing? Email us your support ID from Settings → About (tap it to copy).
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose Plainsign and tap Cancel Subscription. You can also tap Manage subscription in Plainsign’s Settings. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel it. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date (or before a free trial ends) to avoid being charged for the next period.
Will I get a reminder before my trial ends?
Yes. The Remind me before the trial ends switch on the plans screen is on by default. After you start the trial, Plainsign asks to send notifications and reminds you the day before the trial ends. Turn the switch off if you don’t want a reminder.
How do I get a refund?
Payments are handled by Apple, so refunds are too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
What happens when my plan ends?
Your documents stay on your device and stay readable. You can still open, share and save them. Editing, signing and starting new documents need an active plan again, apart from the sample lease and your one free document.
I’m moving to a new iPhone
Tap Restore purchases on the new device to bring your plan with you. Your documents live on the device, so they move only if you transfer your data with Quick Start or restore from a backup. If you’re setting up the new iPhone from scratch, save your important signed documents to Files or iCloud Drive first.
Privacy and your data
Where are my documents stored?
Only on your iPhone or iPad. Plainsign has no account and no server for documents, so we never have a copy. The only thing the app checks online is your App Store purchase. See the Privacy Policy for details.
How do I lock Plainsign with Face ID?
In Plainsign, go to Settings → Security → App lock. Plainsign then asks for Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode when you open it, and when you come back after more than 30 seconds away.
Can you recover a document I deleted?
Unfortunately not. Your documents never reach us, so we don’t have a copy to restore. Keep your own copy of anything important by saving it to Files or sharing it.
How do I delete all my data?
In Plainsign, go to Settings → Your data → Delete all data. This permanently deletes every document, template, saved signature and your My info from the device. Your plan and purchases aren’t affected. Deleting your data doesn’t cancel a subscription; cancel that in your iPhone’s Settings as well.
